Guilty Pleasures

Okay so yeah. It may make me a bit uncomfortable to discuss things I enjoy that some may or may not view as being 'masculine' or 'hip' or whatever the kids are saying these days. However, last night as I watched the Fiesta Bowl (Great game. Who knew Boise State?!?!) I was watching some other programming as well. As I was flipping between three and sometimes four channels it not only took me slightly aback the variety of programming I was watching but I also thought that I must be one of the most random people in the world.

I realized a long time ago that everyone is crazy. Many gentlemen (many of whom are my close friends (WBC!!!!!!!!!!!)) have stated that all women are crazy (which I firmly believe) excluding the insanity known as man (We're crazy too. It's just different. Another discussion for another day.). I realized I was 'off the reservation' many years ago. What signaled that discovery for me was how random my tastes in music continued to evolve.

My tastes in music are somewhat an aspect of the discussion concerning 'Guilty Pleasures.' I mean who doesn't do the 'Bye, Bye, Bye' dance in their car going down the road or doesn't know every word to 'I Want it That Way (I referenced nineties boy bands due to my frame of... well reference. In the sixeties it was soda pop music, seventies had disco and the eighties had Culture Club (THE CLUB!!!!!!!!!) and NKOTB (For those of you not in 'the know' that means New Kids on the Block. Speaking of NKOTB, if you don't like 'Step by Step' or 'Hangin' Tough,' then you my friend are a raging Communist.)).

To further display this, let's take a sample of the bands that I listen to at work on a regular basis:

10,000 Maniacs
Aerosmith (Sell outs)
Alabama (FP!!!)
Amos Lee
The Beatles
Bon Jovi
Bruce Springsteen
Caitlin and Will
Chris Tomlin
Coheed and Cambria
Coldplay
Conway Twitty
Cornerstone
Damien Rice (None better)
Daughtry (My 'Nickelback' and the true source of this discussion)
The Dell Vikings
Diamond Rio (Most underrated band ever. Nope that's REO Speedwagon)
Dispatch
Elton John (Who I found out was only 5'3'')
The Fray
The Gabe Dixon Band
Glee
Hallal Music
Highlands Worship
Hillsong
Honetly
James Morrison
Jeremy Camp
The Judds
Kelly Clarkson (Kelly's my girl. Yeah alot of people like Carrie. That's too easy though. Who doesn't like Carrie Underwood?! She's flippin gorgeous!! However, Kelly's my girl.)
Kenny Rogers
Kings of Leon
Korn
Machinehead
Marilyn Manson
Maroon 5
Mastodon (I'm a little late to this ball game. They are flippin amazing!!)
Merle Haggard
Metallica
Michael W. Smith
My Morning Jacket
Newsboys
Nickel Creek (I got Chris Thile's pick. A little kid wanted it. I said no. The kid was annoying. Parents these days.)
Norah Jones (My girl. Wait...)
OAR
THE Oak Ridge Boys
The Offspring
Pattie Smith
Pearl Jam
Philips, Craig and Dean
Ray LaMontagne
Sara Bareilles
Slipknot
Stone Temple Pilots
Weezer (The new album is amazing!!)
ZOE group

This list doesn't even constitute half of the mess I listen to in my car or at home!!! I realize that taste in music is relative, but how flippin' random is that AND (SWEET MOTHER OF MOSES!!!) how many guilty pleasures are just in this list (You know who isn't? Nickelback and Journey. You know why? They're terrible and I don't enjoy they're music. People need to distinquish between the two. An artist can be good and you may not like their music. Taylor Swift (yes Taylor Swift) is like that for me. She writes her own music and lyrics and is talented, but she isn't my cup of tea. An artist can also be terrible and you may LOVE their music. Dear sweet Daughtry is terrible!!! But I love pretty much every song he puts out. Then there is the particularly lethal combination of an artist being terrible and the music is in no way desirable (ie Nickelback and Journey).)?

The Judds, THE Oak Ridge Boys and Conway mixed with Slipknot, Machinehead and Mastodon. I'm just sayin....

Anyway, all of that to say this. I watched the Bachelor, Monday Night Raw and TNA Impact along with the Fiesta Bowl. Judgement needs to stop now.

New Years Resolutions

Every year, much like the majority of Americans, I succumb to the status quo and attempt to state at least one (if not many more) New Year's resolutions. This year I had two: 1) To be the best friend I possibly could be to everyone and 2) To write more (blogs and anything else I could think of. I've talked about writing a book for the past five years. I've been too lazy to actually do it (Thank you Playstation 3 and Samsung HD DLP). We'll see what happens here.). The likelihood that this will end up centering around religion, politics, and music is incredibly high. However, as Plato once said, "It is what it is."
